What’s a blogger to do? The family members (those in town) had commitments, and a few idle hours were at hand.
Ah, yes, the division-leading Cleveland Indians were playing the second-place Kansas City Royals. So, I grabbed my camera and headed to Kauffman Stadium.
It didn’t end well — Royals lost 7-3 in 10 innings — but it was a good game, played before an energetic and happy crowd of 12,214. Here are some of the scenes.

Let’s see, you supported Burke and he lost. I believe there were a couple of other candidates that went down to defeat with your support and now you single-handedly break the Royals winning streak. Fitz, you’re a jinx. Check with the front office, they may pay you to stay home.
You’re very cruel, John. But didn’t you notice how lucky I was, personally? I mean, to have a beautiful woman come up and thrown herself at me, when she had no idea of my celebrity status or that she’d end up in a famous blog? (By the way, I forgot to thank her boyfriend, or husband, for loaning her to me for a few moments for the sake of a strategic photo. Didn’t catch his name…)
Could the Royals be in the Pujols sweepstakes? He’s looking for a contender…
Some of my sources say Albert is willing to take a pay cut and sign with another team along I-70. That would either be Colorado or Kansas City. I’ll get back with you after I work some more sources…
No offense (it would, after all, be fun to watch Albert play here), but it would make little overall difference to the Royals’ fortunes:
A close reading of the Ramayana reveals that Robinson’s willfully stupid firing of McRae in 1994 caused (Sage) Ṛṣis to place a thousand year curse on the Royals organization.
Though many have since disputed the existence of this curse, it seems obvious in light of the Royals’ cheap-ass Wal-Mart ownership.
Once again, Chuck brings us some backdrop gems that not even Carnac the Magnificent would know about…(For the record, the Robinson that Nick refers to is Spencer “Herk” Robinson, Royals general manager from 1990 to 2000. And McRae, of course, is former Royals player and manager Hal McRae.)
Who’s Chuck?
Sorry, Nick…I got you mixed up with another witty commenter.
