Early on St. Patrick’s Day 27 years ago, our daughter Brooks entered the world at Overland Park Regional Medical Center. It was a cold, wet-snowy day, and Patty and I watched the St. Patrick’s Day Parade on TV from the hospital room, with Brooks close by.
Naturally, Brooks loves St. Patrick’s Day, and sometimes we take in the parade. We did so today, and although there was a stiff breeze from the northeast, it was pleasant, for the most part.
As usual, it was a great spectacle and one of those Kansas City traditions — like the lighting of the Plaza lights — that distinguishes Kansas City from other cities.
Our vantage point was 43rd and Broadway. Here are the photos…
THE END
Great pictures, Jim, but we need one of Brooks, too. Today is her 27th birthday, correct? Tell her happy birthday. I know she is a beautiful young woman from a picture on your blog some time ago.
Happy St. Patrick’s Day to you and Patty!
Cheers,
Laura
Naturally, I took photos of Brooks, but she wouldn’t let me run one…Happy St. Patrick’s Day to you, too, Laura.
She must have forgotten about the one you took in 2012 — cute!
That’s a shame, Jim. She is a beautiful and intelligent young woman.
Know you all are enjoying her birthday.
Cheers,
Laura
Happy Birthday Brooks.
Thank you for keeping me on your list. As I told you many times, I enjoy your articles and stories. See you soon. Maybe with Charles for coffee.
Good to hear from you, Tom…I’ve been derelict in keeping up with Dr. Wheeler…haven’t been to the Flea Market in months. I didn’t see him in the parade yesterday, but Brooks and I missed the start, so maybe we just missed him.
you guys should come down to St. Louis next year for St. Patrick’s day, we have two..yes two parades! One is on the Saturday before the 17th and is held downtown the other is held in “Dogtown” the Irish neighborhood and is put on by the ancient order of hibernians. the two groups split up about 25 years ago when the hibernians said the parade had to be held on the actual date of the feast day and the money grubbers said that they would make more money selling “the green” on a Saturday, so now we have two parades come rain or shine.
